.w3d = 3D models. View with W3DViewer, which is part of the RenX tool pack. To edit them you will need GMax with a W3D>to>GMax script.

.dds = 2D images, used for model skins. Can be opened and edited using plugins for Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop.

.tga = 2D images, used for skins on the models and most of the images in the game. Can be edited with Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.

.bik = Bink video format for movies. Can be opened/edited using the Smacker Tools. http://www.smacker.com/

.mp3 = Music. Can be opened/edited with any audio programs.

.wav = IMA ADPCM is used for sound effects and other audio. Can be opened/edited with any audio programs.

.csf = String file. Edit with the csfeditor tool.

.map = Maps, both multi and single player. The files can be opened using WorldEditor.

.wnd = Menus and dialogs. Edit with notepad.

.ini = INI files. Can be created/edited with Notepad.

.scb = AI files. Can be edited with Worldbuilder.
